A Grade Men’s
The ANZAC Day match saw North Fremantle up against Fremantle C.B.C. North Freo, the reigning 2024 B Grade Grand Final and earned themselves a slot in A Grade for the 2025 season now come up against local rivals for the first time in years. After unfortunate losses in Rounds 1 and 2, North Freo goes into Round 3 desperate for a win. Fremantle C.B.C., who ended last season 2nd on the ladder in A Grade and have gone 1-1 so far this season will be a formidable task. This marks their first Fremantle Derby during a season since Round 14 of the 2022 season.
North Freo started the day with a special ANZAC memorial, inviting the community to join them in commemorating the day before the big game.
The 1st quarter started off strong with C.B.C. scoring 3 consecutive goals, just when it was looking bad for North Freo, they managed to find their rhythm and score 4 goals of their own, ending the 1st quarter 26-18 for North Freo.
The momentum stayed in North Freo’s favour after they managed to score the 1st and 2nd goals of the 2nd quarter. C.B.C. managed an impressive goal right on the half-time siren, which ended with North Freo leading by 13 points.
C.B.C. desperate to close the gap, score the first goal of the 3rd quarter. North Freo managed to keep the heat with 2 goals of their own, but it was C.B.C. who, after a remarkable quarter, earning 4 goals in total, managed to close the gap.
The 4th quarter started 53-53, C.B.C. scored 2 consecutive goals, widening their sudden lead. In one final attempt to regain their lead, North Freo managed a quick goal in the last 4 minutes. However, it wasn’t enough, and Fremantle C.B.C. took the win by 9 points.
Fremantle C.B.C. have ended round 3 sitting 4th on the ladder in A Grade, looking secure in their hopes of making it to the finals, while their neighbours at North Freo have landed themselves at the bottom of the ladder, if they want to keep the spot in A Grade they fought so hard for last season, they will need to put all their focus and energy on fighting for their first win next round.

A Grade Women’s
North Beach and University face off in Round 3’s ANZAC Day match, a rematch from their game in the first round of finals for the 2024 season, where University took the win by an impressive 20 points and a final score of 45-25. North Beach saw a return of their ANZAC jumpers for the special day in support of the day.
North Beach looked to make a redemption from their last face-off and came out fighting. However, the team struggled to find their rhythm while University came out strong, scoring 2 consecutive goals in just under 10 minutes, going 12-0 into the 2nd quarter.
The momentum picked up after half-time with University scoring a goal 4 minutes into the 3rd quarter, and they followed this up just 6 minutes later with another goal. North Beach gave 1 final push in the last 2 minutes and scored their first goal, but the team would have to push even harder to close the 24-7 gap in the 4th quarter.
North Beach struggled with their comeback and couldn’t find their footing, not managing to score in the final quarter. While University put in their all and scored 3 goals in 10 minutes, sealing their victory by 42 points.
University ends round 3 only 1 spot away from the top 5 on the ladder and is one step closer to the finals, while North Beach skates precariously close to the bottom 2 and needs to fight harder in the next few rounds to not risk their spot in A Grade.

B Grade Men’s
Although they lost the 2024 C1 Grand Final, Cockburn Lakes managed to score themselves a slot in the B Grade for the 2025 season. Going up against Wanneroo in Round 3, who ended last season 6th on the ladder in B Grade. So far this season, Wanneroo have gone 0-2 in the first 2 rounds, while Cockburn Lakes had an impressive debut with 1 win and 1 loss under their belts. The day started with an ANZAC Day service, where the community was invited to join in on the special service.
After a brilliant 1st quarter, where Cockburn Lakes managed 4 remarkable goals and Wanneroo was able to land 1 goal in the last 4 minutes. Cockburn seemed to stumble in the 2nd quarter, only managing 1 behind, while Wanneroo came out strong with 2 goals and 4 behinds, overtaking Cockburn in points and going into half-time 26-20.
The momentum picked up in the 2nd half with both teams fighting hard, but it was Wanneroo who scored the 1st goal of the 3rd quarter, followed by 2 goals. Cockburn Lakes fought desperately to close the gap to Wanneroo, scoring 4 consecutive goals in the last 11 minutes, bringing the score to 47-44.
Wanneroo, once again, scored the first goal of the final quarter. Cockburn fought back with 2 goals of their own, however, a late surge of energy saw Wanneroo score 4 consecutive goals, securing them the win with an impressive 22-point lead.
Wanneroo managed their first win of the season but still sit 7th on the ladder, if they want to reach the top 5 and make it to finals, they will have to continue to fight hard.
Although Cockburn missed out on the win, they finish the round sitting just 1 spot above Wanneroo on the ladder at 6th.
