Game of the week: Fremantle CBC v Wanneroo

Week 3 finished off with the first annual Owen Hinchliffe Memorial match, Fremantle CBC hosting newcomers Wanneroo under lights at Morris Buzacott Reserve, both teams searching for their first win of the 2025 season.

Fremantle CBC showed some early dominance as Wanneroo would struggle to find any ball movement in their attacking half. Kyron Timms holding down the back line for Fremantle CBC and would mark anything that came his way and prevent Wanneroo from having any chances at scoring in the early stages.

Two very quick goals from Kain Lymbery saw Fremantle CBC find some breathing room, but Wanneroo would eventually get the ball forward. Unfortunately, they could only muster a single behind for the first 15 minutes. Adam Rapanaro kicking his first career goal late in the first quarter would see Fremantle CBC take a 27-point lead at quarter time.

Fremantle CBC would again show some mid field dominance, and it started to reflect on the scoreboard as Zac Broxton would get the first goal of the second quarter. Wanneroo would eventually find 2 quick goals deep into the second quarter thanks to some brilliant mid field movement from Oliver Bruce. CBC would eventually have a reply from Damian Timms and would go into the main break up up by 35 points.

Despite being down at the main break, Wanneroo coach Wade Chitty had nothing but praise for his side who showed nothing but improvements the further the game went on.

The third quarter saw Wanneroo starting to dominate the midfield which led to a goal by Bailey Pickett within the first 2 minutes. Fremantle CBC tried everything they could to stop Wanneroo from getting any attack going but some great teamwork by Wanneroo would see them get another goal on the board and start to eat into the CBC lead. Oliver Bruce being the standout player running of centre half

back to try keep his team within touching distance heading into three quarter time.

A 31-point CBC lead heading into the last quarter seemed like it was enough for them to bring home the win but 2 quick goals by Wanneroo after a 5-minute stale mate saw the margin slowly starting to disappear. Fremantle CBC would begin to show some late dominance and with a late goal, it was Fremantle CBC who would win their first game of the season in front of their home fans.
