Women’s A Grade

Round 5 in the Women’s A Grade sees a 2024 Grand Final rematch between Wembley and Melville. The thrilling match last season saw Wembley take the victory, 22-7, which clinched them the Premiership. Entering round 5, Melville would’ve been prepped and ready for retribution against the reigning premiers.

The game kicked off with Wembley scoring first, before Melville responded with the opening goal to take an early lead. Wembley managed another score, then with just two minutes remaining, they finally broke through with their first goal, nudging ahead of Melville 8–6 at the end of the 1st quarter.

Melville opened the 2nd quarter with a behind, but it was Wembley who continued to add the pressure. They added three more behinds to extend their lead and maintain momentum going into the second half.

After half-time, both sides were locked in a tense battle and struggling to score. In the final minutes, Wembley finally broke the deadlock with two behinds and a vital goal, pushing their lead to 18–7 at the final break.

The 4th quarter started with another hard-fought stalemate as Melville fought for a comeback and Wembley worked to defend their lead. Eventually, Melville broke through to score their 2nd goal, but it wasn’t enough to close the gap, and the reigning premiers managed to secure the win by 6 points.

Following round 5, Wembley sit securely at the top of the ladder, while Melville have fallen to 7th. they will need to fight hard to keep themselves out of the bottom 2.

Men’s A Grade

In Round 5, Kingsway took on Fremantle C.B.C., with both teams entering the match with 3 wins and 1 loss. Each side is eager to climb the ladder and secure a spot in the top two.
Fremantle C.B.C. started strong with two behinds and a goal, but Kingsway quickly replied with their own goal. Undaunted, Fremantle surged ahead with two more goals, while Kingsway could only add a behind. Fremantle ended the 1st quarter with four uninterrupted behinds and two late goals, finishing the quarter firmly in control.

Fremantle C.B.C. opened with two behinds, but Kingsway landed the first goal. Fremantle C.B.C. answered with a goal and a behind, before Kingsway fought back with two behinds and a goal. Trailing by 25 points late in the quarter, Kingsway finished strong with two quick goals to cut into the margin.

Kingsway struck early with a goal, but C.B.C. quickly answered with a behind and a goal. After a single behind from Kingsway, C.B.C. took back control, adding two behinds and three goals, widening the margin, 73-40.


Kingsway came out determined to close the gap, securing back-to-back goals. Fremantle C.B.C. added a behind midway through, but Kingsway kept pushing with another 2 goals. Despite their strong finish, Fremantle C.B.C. held on with two late behinds to secure a 12-point win.

By the end of round 5, Kingsway sits at the midway point of the ladder at 6th, with 3 wins and 2 losses. While Fremantle C.B.C have managed to fight their way to 2nd with 4 wins and 1 loss.

Men’s C5 Grade

Round 5 saw 2 undefeated teams go head-to-head. Coolbellup and SNESA have both gone 4-0 so far this season, and both teams are sitting high on the ladder. This game was be a fight for the top spot, and to see which team can continue their undefeated streak. This was also an anniversary game for Coolbellup, who are celebrating their club's 50th year.

Coolbellup dominated early, kicking the first goal from a free kick and quickly adding 4 more goals and 3 behinds. SNESA managed 2 behinds, as Coolbellup took a commanding 33–2 lead into the first break.

Coolbellup kept their momentum going strong, opening the 2nd quarter with another goal and quickly adding their seventh. An impressive six behinds followed before they ended the quarter with 1 final goal. SNESA continued to struggle, unable to close the gap heading into the second half.

Coolbellup kept the control, opening with a behind and quickly adding three goals to widen their lead to 76–2. They continued their strong run with two more goals, bringing their number of goals to 13. With eight minutes left, SNESA finally broke through with their first goal of the game, sparking a late surge that saw them add two more in quick succession

Trailing by 68 points, SNESA entered the final term hoping to shift the momentum, but it was Coolbellup who once again scored first with their 14th goal. At the 17-minute mark, they hit triple digits with another goal, followed by a behind and yet another goal. Despite the margin, SNESA showed late determination, adding a behind and a goal in the final eight minutes. However, it wasn’t enough to close the margin, and Coolbellup won the match by an impressive 80 points.

This win has secured Coolbellup’s position at the top of the ladder and holds onto their undefeated streak, while SNESA sits 4th.
