Women’s A Grade
After a well-deserved week off for all the teams in the League, they came back strong and ready for round 8. In the Women’s A Grade competition, we saw Baldivis go up against Bullcreek Leeming, a rematch from their B Grade Grand Final Match in the 2024 season. Bullcreek took the win by 4 points, however, both teams played so impressively in the 2024 season that both advanced to A Grade for 2025.
The 1st quarter began at a slow pace, with both teams struggling to gain momentum. However, Baldivis got a burst of energy in the final 5 minutes, scoring a behind before quickly following up with a goal to break the deadlock. Bullcreek managed to secure a behind in the final 2 minutes.
Baldivis started the 2nd quarter strong with the first goal, but Bullcreek quickly responded with one of their own. A stalemate followed until Baldivis broke the deadlock with another goal at the 6-minute mark. Bullcreek kept the pressure on, adding a behind and finishing the quarter with a late goal to stay in play.
Baldivis once again came out firing in the 3rd quarter, piling on 3 goals to take control of the game. Bullcreek struggled to find their rhythm but showed determination, setting the stage for a determined final quarter.
Baldivis opened the 4th quarter with an early goal, but Bullcreek responded swiftly with a goal and a behind. Just 4 minutes later, they secured their 4th goal, narrowing the gap. Baldivis answered back with a goal. Bullcreek’s persistence paid off as they secured their 5th goal, and the final goal of the game, however, it wasn’t enough to take the match.
Baldivis won the match by 16 points, redeeming themselves from the Grand Final match up from last season. Baldivis now see themselves 3rd on the ladder, close to their chance at being in the A Grade Finals, while Bullcreek now sit at the bottom of the ladder, the team will have to fight hard to move up in ladder and avoid the bump down to B Grade.

Men’s A Grade
Round 8 saw Curtin Uni Wesley battle it out against Scarborough, both teams sit relatively high on the ladder, but which will make it into the semifinals?
Curtin came out firing, opening the match with 2 quick goals, however, Scarborough were unable to find their footing. Maintaining control Curtin scored 3 back-to-back goals. Their dominance continued with a 6th unanswered goal. Scarborough finally found some spark at the 7-minute mark, landing their 1st goal and a behind. Curtin closed a strong quarter with a 7th goal, firmly in control early.
Scarborough started strong, slotting 2 quick goals to try and rebuild their momentum. Curtin answered with 3 behinds before securing a goal at the 9-minute mark. Scarborough then added a behind, but Curtin struck back, kicking back-to-back goals at the 6-minute mark and closing the quarter with another goal, taking their goal tally to 11 by halftime.
After a slow start to the 3rd, Scarborough broke through with a behind, then quickly followed it up with 2 goals. Curtin responded with 3 consecutive behinds, before Scarborough added 3 of their own. With just 2 minutes remaining, Curtin landed their 7th behind and ended the quarter with their 12th goal.
Curtin wasted no time, opening the final quarter with an early goal. Scarborough hit back quickly with one of their own, desperate for a comeback. Curtin then added 3 behinds and a goal in a 4-minute time span. At the 13-minute mark, Scarborough scored their 7th goal, followed by a behind only 6 minutes later. Curtin closed out the match with 2 back-to-back behinds in the final minute, securing a strong win by 46 points. Both teams sit securely at the middle of the ladder, with Curtin sitting at 4th while Scarborough sits at 5th. They’re both close to the possibility of reaching the finals, but must keep the momentum going.

EGT Laurie Keene Colts
Round 8 in the EGT Laurie Keene Colts competition saw Piara Waters up against Kingsley. Piara ended the 2024 season at the top of the ladder, despite losing the Grand Final to Quinns District, while Kingsley ended 3rd on the ladder. Both teams are determined to make it to the top this season.
Piara Waters opened the scoring with 2 behinds, shortly after a free kick gave them the 1st goal of the game, Kingsley then secured 2 goals to take the lead. Piara answered with a goal of their own, keeping things close. The teams then traded behinds, with Kingsley adding 2 more before slotting their 3rd goal. Piara closed out an intense quarter with a 3rd goal.
The 2nd quarter scoring started with Piara scoring a behind, but Kingsley responded with 3 consecutive behinds. After a brief lull, Kingsley scored a 7th behind and followed by a crucial goal, extending their lead to 9 points heading into halftime.
Kingsley started the 3rd quarter with 2 behinds, keeping the pressure on. Piara, determined to narrow the gap, secured their 4th goal. Kingsley answered with another behind and 2 quick goals to hold their lead. Piara Waters weren’t ready to give up yet and struck back with 2 back-to-back goals at the 9-minute mark and added a late behind, cutting Kingsley’s lead to just 5 points heading into the final quarter.
Piara Waters started the final quarter with a behind, but Kingsley quickly responded with one of their own, followed by 2 more in rapid succession. Piara then scored their 7th goal and added a 6th behind to keep the pressure on. At the 12-minute mark, Kingsley scored their 14th behind. With only 12 minutes left of the match both teams fought hard; Piara to close the 2 point margin, while Kingsley fought hard to keep their narrow lead. Ultimately, both teams were unable to add anymore points to the board resulting in Kingsley taking the match by 2 points.
After a close match Kingsley sees themselves at the top of the ladder, so far going undefeated in the 2025 season, while Piara Waters sees themselves at 4th, still in the running for the semifinals but will be determined to work their way back to their top spot.
