Men’s A Grade

Round 9 saw North Fremantle go up against University, both teams sit in the bottom half of the ladder and will be desperate for a win to start the climb to the top North Freo kicked things off with the opening goal of the match. They added a behind at the 15-minute mark to extend their lead. University responded with a behind of their own before securing a goal to level the scores. Gaining more confidence, University slotted a 2nd goal to take the lead. North Freo weren’t going to back down and answered with a goal to keep the pressure on. However, in the final 3 and a half minutes of the quarter, University surged ahead with 2 back-to-back goals.

University opened the 2nd quarter with a behind before North Freo hit back with their 3rd goal. A free kick gave North Freo another shot at goal, but ended in a behind. University then used their own free kick to secure a 5th goal. North Freo had a shot at redemption and responded with goal, pushing hard to close the gap. 2 late behinds from North Freo brought the margin to just 4 points at halftime.


North Freo came out strong after the half-time break, securing heir 5th goal early in the 3rd quarter. University responded with a behind from a free kick, then followed up minutes later with a goal to reclaim control. North Freo managed a behind, but University amped up the pressure with 2 goals. As North Freo began to struggle with momentum, University surged again, adding another 2 more goals pushing their lead out to 26 points.

North Freo once again scored first, slotting their 6th goal less than 2 minutes into the 4th quarter. A stalemate ensued, broken by a behind from University. North Freo responded with a behind of their own, but University took control, kicking 2 goals. They ended the quarter with 2 more behinds, ending with a strong finish to the match and winning by 35-points
The match didn’t cause any changes to the teams positions on the ladder but it will have lit a fire under North Fremantle and caused a raise in determination to prove their strength in the upcoming games.

Women’s A Grade

Wembley faced off against Curtin Uni Wesley in Round 9. Wembley, who have so far gone undefeated this season, will be determined to keep their streak going, while Curtin will be determined to be the ones to finally end it.
Wembley opened the match with an early behind, quickly backing it up with the game's 1st goal. They then added 2 more behinds back-to-back before Curtin got on the board with their 1st goal in the final 3 minutes of the 1st quarter.

Curtin started the 2nd quarter strong, slotting a goal to level the score. However, Wembley responded with a surge of scoring, securing 3 behinds and a goal in under 2 minutes. Curtin didn’t back down, adding a behind and then a well-timed goal to keep things tight heading into halftime.

The 3rd quarter was a hard-fought stalemate, with Curtin securing the only scores, with 2 behinds, as both sides struggled to break through. Despite Curtin’s strong 3rd quarter effort, they weren’t able to carry that momentum into the final quarter. Wembley held firm and sealed the game with a late surge, scoring a behind and a goal in the final 2 minutes to close out the match.
After a well-fought, close match Curtin fell just short and lost by only 4 points, the team still sits securing at 2nd on the ladder, but they are closing in close to the top team. Wembley makes it through another round undefeated, sitting at the top of the ladder, but they will have to continue to fight hard to keep their spot.

Men’s B Grade

Round 9 for Men’s B Grade saw Cockburn Lakes go up against Bullcreek Leeming. Cockburn Lakes will be desperate to win and climb up the ladder.
Cockburn wasted no time, kicking the opening goal in the first minute of play. Bullcreek responded with a behind shortly after, then added 2 more to build some pressure. Their determination was rewarded, as they followed up their 3 behinds with a goal, taking the lead heading into the 2nd quarter.

Bullcreek opened with a behind, but Cockburn quickly answered with one of their own. Cockburn found their momentum, adding their 2nd goal and another behind. Bullcreek didn’t back down, managing to secure their 5th behind before breaking through with a goal. Cockburn, eager to hold their lead, added another behind, but Bullcreek hit back with another goal to briefly take the lead. Cockburn wasn’t done, though, responding with a behind and then slotting 3 impressive goals to reclaim control heading into halftime.

Bullcreek once again opened with a behind, then after a sudden lull in tension, secured a goal to close the gap. They added another behind shortly after, but Cockburn quickly re-entered the competition, slotting 2 back-to-back goals and adding 2 behinds to maintain a strong lead. Bullcreek managed 1 final behind with just 40 seconds left on the clock, but Cockburn held firm heading into the final quarter.

The last quarter started with an impressive goal from Bullcreek, but Cockburn quickly responded with one of their own to hold their lead. Still determined, Bullcreek slotted their 7th goal to stay in touch, but Cockburn answered with 2 goals and a behind. In the final 10 minutes, Bullcreek scored their 8th goal, but it wasn’t enough, as Cockburn finished strong, adding another 2 goals to seal an impressive win.


Although Cockburn secured the win, they sit in the bottom half at 6th on the ladder; this same drive they brought in Round 9 will be needed in future rounds to make the climb up. While Bullcreek sit at 4th, they will need to keep this momentum next round to stay at the top.
