Match of the round: Wanneroo vs University 

The two new comers to the Integrated football competition came up against each other to open round 11. Wanneroo looking for their first win in their history while University was looking for a solid result heading towards the finals. 

Wanneroo made a solid start, showing some early ball movement but struggling to find a score. Despite some good wing play, their attempts on goal were either wayward or easily shut down by University’s well-organized defense. On the other hand, University capitalized on their chances and kicked the opening goal of the game. 

Wanneroo’s first real shot on goal resulted in a behind, and although they had some promising passages of play, Uni’s defence remained strong and prevented any further attacks. Early dominance from University was evident, both in possession and on the scoreboard, as they asserted control over the match. At the first break, it was clear that University were hungry for a win as they led by 19 points. 

The game was affected by a passing shower late in the opening quarter, making the start of the second quarter more difficult for both teams. The wet conditions led to a stale mate, with neither side able to break find a breakthrough. 

However, University soon regained their composure and began to dominate possession, locking the ball inside their forward 50. University’s persistence paid off as they kicked the first goal of the quarter, pushing the margin further. Wanneroo, managed to find a way through and kicked their first goal as the rain started once again. Despite the wet weather, University remained in control and continued to apply pressure on the scoreboard and would go into half time up 29-7. 

Wanneroo came out firing in the third quarter, determined to fight back. They found the opening goal within the first minute, setting the tone for a more competitive passage of play. However, University responded swiftly with a goal of their own, preventing Wanneroo from gaining any significant momentum. 

As the quarter progressed, University found their rhythm, applying scoreboard pressure with quick goals and further extending their lead. By the end of the quarter, University blew the lead out to 37 points, leaving Wanneroo with a challenging task in the final quarter. 

The final quarter began with the rain fully setting in, adding another layer of difficulty to the game. Wanneroo showed some early promise with a clearance and quick ball movement that would only muster a behind, momentarily narrowing the gap. A free kick awarded to Wanneroo led to a fortunate 7-point play, giving them a boost. 

However, University quickly regained control, scoring their first goal midway through the final quarter. From there, they dominated the rest of the game, generating multiple inside 50 entries and forcing Wanneroo to defend under pressure. With their accuracy improving, University was able to keep the scoreboard ticking over, finishing the game strongly.
