Men’s A Grade

Round 13 saw Whitford up against University in a desperate fight to climb the ladder. Whitford opened the match with the 1st goal, making an early statement. They then broke through with their 1st goal to take the lead and closed out the quarter strong with 2 consecutive goals, heading into the break with all the momentum.

After a quiet 5-minute start, Whitford broke the lull with the 1st goal of the quarter, then added a 3rd to their tally shortly after. University hit back with a goal and a behind, building momentum. They followed up with their 5th goal and another behind, edging further ahead. Whitford managed their 1st behind of the match, but University closed out the half strongly with another goal to maintain control going into the break.
University opened the 2nd half with a quick goal, but Whitford responded immediately with one of their own. A behind from University followed before an unfortunate contact forced a Whitford player off the field with an injury. A long stalemate settled in until Whitford finally broke through with another goal. The final 5 minutes of the quarter remained scoreless as both sides struggled to find an opening.

University opened the final quarter with a behind, quickly matched by Whitford, who then surged ahead with 2 back-to-back goals. University responded with a goal of their own, but Whitford, determined to close the gap, added another behind and 2 more quick goals to narrowly take the lead. With pressure mounting, University clawed back with 2 behinds to level the score at 57–57. In a tense final few minutes, both sides battled fiercely. Then, with just 1 minute remaining, the University broke through with a clutch goal to seal a thrilling finish.
After their unfortunate loss, Whitford now sits in the bottom 2 of the A men’s ladder, with the possibility of dropping a grade should set a fire under the team to fight hard in the upcoming games.

Women’s A Grade

Round 13 in the women’s A Grade sees North Fremantle battle it off against Warnbro.
North Freo kicked off the match with an early behind, soon following it up with their 1st goal and another behind. While North Freo built momentum, Warnbro struggled to settle into the game. North Freo capitalised, piling on 2 back-to-back goals, adding 2 more behinds, and finishing the quarter with a 4th goal to take firm control.

Warnbro returned in the 2nd quarter with renewed determination, opening the quarter with their 1st goal and adding a behind shortly after. North Freo lost the rhythm they had early on, as Warnbro closed the half with 2 quick behinds in the final minutes, narrowing the gap and shifting the energy heading into halftime.

North Freo came out strong in the 3rd quarter, opening with a goal and a behind. They continued to press, adding a 6th goal and another behind to extend their lead. After a brief stalemate, Warnbro broke through with a goal in the final minutes, but North Freo responded with 1 more to close the quarter.

The final quarter was a hard-fought contest, with both sides battling to gain ground. Warnbro managed 3 behinds, showing resilience, while North Freo were kept scoreless. Despite the late push, North Freo's early dominance secured them a convincing 30-point win, finishing 48–18.

B Grade Men’s

B Grade Men’s played their games for Round 14 over the weekend, with Brentwood Booragoon going up against Mt Lawley.
Brentwood opened strongly with a behind and 2 early goals, building a quick lead. Mt Lawley responded with a goal from a free kick, sparking a momentum shift. They followed up with 2 more goals to take the lead. Brentwood added a final behind to close out a competitive opening quarter.

Mt Lawley picked up right where they left off, opening with a quick goal and adding another soon after. A behind followed before Brentwood responded with 1 of their own. Mt Lawley then piled on another 2 consecutive goals to stretch their lead. Brentwood fought to stay in the game, adding 3 more behinds, but Mt Lawley closed the quarter strong with yet another goal, finishing a dominant 1st half.

Brentwood opened the 2nd half with a behind and quickly followed it up with a goal. Mt Lawley responded with 1 of their own, but Brentwood surged back with 2 quick goals and another behind, fighting to close the gap. Mt Lawley hit double digits with their 10th goal, but Brentwood answered again with a goal and 2 behinds before slotting another, cutting the margin to just 10 points. Mt Lawley steadied late, ending the quarter with 3 consecutive behinds.

Mt Lawley dominated the final quarter, putting the game well beyond reach with a relentless attacking display. They piled on another 7 goals and added 2 behinds, bringing their total to 17 goals for the match. Brentwood managed to notch 1 final goal, their 8th, but it wasn’t enough to stem the tide. Mt Lawley’s powerful finish sealed a strong 50-point victory over Brentwood.
Mt Lawley sits securely at the top of the ladder, with an undefeated season so far and with big hopes of making it to the finals. On the other side, Brentwood sits at the bottom of the ladder and will have a tough fight a head of them the work their way up.
