A Grade Men’s

Round 18, the last round before the finals begin, saw Curtin Uni Wesley up against Trinity Aquinas.
Curtin Uni opened the match with an early behind, but Trinity quickly struck back with the 1st goal of the game. Curtin responded, slotting 2 goals in the space of 2 minutes to grab the lead. Trinity kept the match level with a goal of their own before Curtin Uni added 3 consecutive behinds. As the quarter ended, Trinity found a late goal to edge in front, taking a narrow lead into the 1st break.

Trinity carried their momentum into the 2nd quarter, opening with a goal to extend their lead. Curtin Uni responded with back-to-back behinds before Trinity added one of their own. Curtin Uni kept pressing, adding another behind before finally breaking through with a goal. Trinity answered with yet another behind, but Curtin Uni slotted a late goal to take a 5-point lead into halftime.
After a quiet start to the 2nd half, Curtin Uni broke through with the opening goal and quickly added a behind to build momentum. The next 10 minutes saw both sides go goal for goal, with Trinity and Curtin Uni each slotting 2 goals to keep the match close. Trinity added a behind late in the quarter, before Curtin Uni closed it out with one of their own, keeping their slight lead heading into the final break.

Curtin Uni once again started strong, opening the final quarter with a goal before piling on 3 quick behinds in the space of 2 minutes. They backed it up with another goal to extend their lead. Trinity hit back with a goal of their own to close the margin. Curtin added another behind, only for Trinity to respond with one as well. Curtin Uni slotted their 10th goal of the game before Trinity ended the match with a final behind. At the final siren, Curtin Uni claimed a convincing 26-point victory.
Curtin Uni Wesley sees their performance take them to the finals, while Trinity Aquinas just lose out on the chance, but will no doubt fight hard next season.

C1 Men’s Round 1 Finals

The 1st round of the finals in C1 Men’s sees Hamersley Carine battle it out against Mosman Park.
Carine came out firing in the opening quarter, slotting 3 goals and 3 behinds. Mosman Park worked hard to stay close, securing 1 goal alongside 5 behinds. After the 1st quarter, Carine held a 20–11 lead.

Mosman Park started the 2nd quarter strongly with a goal, but Carine quickly answered with a goal of their own and a behind. Mosman Park responded with a behind and their 3rd goal to close the gap, before adding 2 more behinds to keep the pressure on. Carine, however, secured a late goal, taking a narrow 7-point advantage into halftime.
Carine struck first in the third quarter, opening with a goal before piling on 2 more in quick succession to take control of the match. Mosman Park answered back with a goal and a behind, then followed up with another goal to keep themselves in the fight. Carine responded with another goal, before Mosman Park added their 10th behind of the game. Carine closed out the quarter with a late behind, keeping their lead intact heading into the final quarter.

Carine once again opened the quarter, slotting a goal before adding 3 consecutive behinds. Mosman Park hit back with a burst of momentum, kicking 3 goals in a row and adding a behind to close the margin. Carine secured another goal, but Mosman Park responded with one of their own to keep the game alive. In the end, Carine managed a late behind to hold firm, finishing with a narrow 9-point victory.
Hamersley Carine will move on to Round 2 of the finals, going up against Kwinana next week. Unfortunately for Mosman Park, after a strong effort, they are eliminated from the finals.

A Grade Women’s Round 2 Finals

Round 2 of the A Grade Women’s saw  University up against Curtin University Wesley in the Qualifying Final.
The opening quarter started slowly, with both sides struggling to find momentum until University broke through with the 1st behind of the match, quickly backing it up with the opening goal. Curtin Uni responded late, slotting a goal of their own to leave the game even at the first break.

Curtin Uni carried that momentum into the 2nd quarter, striking first with their 2nd goal. University answered with a behind and soon followed up with their 2nd goal to level things once more. Curtin Uni closed out the half with 2 consecutive behinds, leaving the scores locked at 14–14 heading into halftime.
The 3rd quarter turned into a stalemate, with both sides battling hard to lock each other down. Scoring proved difficult, but Curtin Uni eventually broke through at the 7-minute mark with a behind, as the deadlock quickly resumed for the remainder of the quarter.

Curtin Uni’s momentum faded in the final quarter, as they were unable to add to their tally. University also started slowly but found a late spark. In the final four minutes, they slotted a behind and followed it up with a decisive goal to snatch victory, winning by a narrow 6-point margin.
University’s win sees them advance straight to the Grand Final, waiting for the final preliminary round next week to decide their opposition.
