2025 Budget Car and Truck Rental Women’s Grand Final Weekend Fri, September 5, 2025 - 8:54 AM

It might be raining on Saturday for the 2025 Budget Car and Truck Rental Women’s Grand Final Weekend, but the energy on the field will be anything but dampened.

With fourteen teams representing thirteen clubs across seven epic matches, it’s going to be a fantastic day to get down and support your favourite teams. We reached out to the competing clubs to ask how their seasons have gone, what they’re excited for this weekend, and who to watch out for this Saturday.

Women’s A: University vs Baldivis

5:00PM, HIF Health Insurance Oval, $15 Entry

University and Baldivis sit first and second on the ladder for the season with each winning ten games and conceding only three. The teams have clashed only once with University coming out on top.

“We’ve really developed and grown a fair bit over the course of the year,” University Coach Harry Beaton explained. “We’re particularly proud to have both our A Grade and our A Reserves women’s teams into a grand final, which is a great reflection on the depth in our squad and is something we really tried to build on.”

Baldivis, a newcomer into A Division, has made it to the grand final in their first season, showing how strong the side is. Beating Curtin Uni Wesley by five points over the weekend, the team showcased why they’ve qualified for Saturday’s grand final. From the Baldivis bench, State representatives Kelsey Timms, Chloe Colegate and Sabreena McKinnon have been named as players to watch.

“A proven forward threat, Timms has built a reputation as one of the league’s sharpest finishers,” said Baldivis spokesperson. “Colegate anchors the Baldivis backline with her composure and reliability… Sabreena brings versatility and class to the Baldivis side. Her [McKinnon] ability to influence contests all over the ground makes her a constant danger for opposition sides.”

From University, Tayla Hepburn, Eloise Massey and Rebecca Lyons have been named as three pivotal players on the field.

“She [Hepburn] is relatively new to footy from basketball… her improvement over the last couple of years in the ruck has been a real credit to her and the hard work she has put in, and she’s a great leader within our group,” Beaton explained. Lyons has moved to the backline this season and has been dubbed ‘a general in defence’ for her formidable leadership. Massey, an inside contested ball winner and someone who has improved immensely over the years, has the exciting opportunity to join her father as a University A Division winning Premiership Player if University take out the grand final this weekend.

“We have a lot of respect for Baldivis,” Beaton remarked, “and we’re very much looking forward to the challenge of taking them on this Saturday night when they’ve been a really tough opponent.”

Women’s A Reserves: North Fremantle vs University

3:00PM, HIF Health Insurance Oval, $15 Entry

North Fremantle takes on University in the A Reserves Grand Final in an epic clash between two impressive teams. North Fremantle, undefeated this season and the first to make it through to Saturday, has had a stellar season with some intimidating winning margins from Round 1.

“The tenacity and enthusiasm of the group never ceases to amaze me!” North Fremantle President Nick Holt had to say. “The twenty-three who are lucky enough to be running out on the park for the Grand Final are only a small part of the greater group who have all contributed to the success of the entire women’s program.”

North Fremantle and University have clashed once this season, with North Fremantle narrowly beating University in a close game. University, who finished fourth on the ladder, has dominated finals, showing the immense strength of the squad taking to the field Saturday.

“We’ve built really nicely over the season,” University Coach Dave Gilbert explained, “we had a bit of a slower start as we were getting to know each other, and we worked early on some of the structures and processes which have come through over the last couple of weeks.”

“Skills developed over the back end of the season started to show in the way we have been playing our football. We’re excited to see that on display Saturday.”

Captain Zara Cavalot and players Jemma Burnage and Carla Puca have been named as three to watch from the University side. From North Fremantle, Captain Taylor Bresland, ruck Linda Armannsson, and Carissa Wright are also three key players to watch on the field this Saturday.

Women’s B: Trinity Aquinas vs Hamersley Carine

3:00PM, Burrendah Reserve, $15 Entry

Trinity Aquinas finished the season undefeated, followed closed by Hamersley Carine, making this weekend’s grand final clash between these two teams one to watch. The teams faced off twice this season and once again in finals, with Trinity Aquinas coming out on top each time.

“The biggest thing for me this year has been how incredible the culture is within this group,” Trinity Aquinas Coach Daniel Cripps had to say. “I’ve been in and around footy teams for a long time, but I’ve never been part of one that gets along so well and genuinely cares for each other like this team does – it’s something really special. This being my first year as coach, a lot of credit has to go to the previous coach Michael Arangio who has guided this team from day one when we first joined the league back in 2022.”

Hamersely Carine knocked out Quinns District over the weekend after a strong second and third quarter helped cement the lead. After establishing two teams this season, it’s been a tremendous achievement for the club.

“I’ve been coaching for twenty years, but it’s my first year back in coaching after a bit of time off and first time coaching women’s,” Hamersley Carine Coach Bevan Dagg said, “and one thing I’ve found getting involved with the women’s program is they are super motivated, organised, and they’re off their own back.”

“It’s been a relentless, selfless season. They’ve worked really hard and they’ve got the reward for it… they should be really proud. Their desire to support each other has brought the rewards.”

Selflessness, effort and competitiveness were at the heart of Hamersley Carine’s strategy this season as the team focused on making the collective effort of all the players the main priority. The Hamersley Carine side as a whole will showcase this mentality on Saturday, with every player bringing something essential to the field.

“It [this season] was about ‘what can I do as a team member to maybe sacrifice a bit of my game, to make my teammates game better’,” Dagg explained. “What this does is, with players at different skill levels, it makes players who aren’t as higher skilled as others be able to contribute.”

From the Trinity Aquinas bench, Nadia Captain Nadia Pisano, half-forward Abbey Waddell, and the team’s leading goal-scorer Jess Schleicher have been named as players to keep an eye on. Pisano is a “hard two-way running midfielder whose form has gone to another level since playing in this year’s State Game in Victoria,” Cripps explained. Waddell, fresh off four goals in the qualifying final, and Schleicher with her electric pace, are both expected to showcase some fantastic football on Saturday.

Women’s C1: Kelmscott vs Ocean Ridge

1:00PM, Burrendah Reserve, $15 Entry

Kelmscott’s C1 Women’s team will be the second team to represent the Bulldogs in a grand final this season. After defeating Kwinana in the second round of finals, the team earned its place in this weekend’s grand final alongside Ocean Ridge. Kelmscott and Ocean Ridge have battled it out twice already this season, with Kelmscott coming out on top both times.

“The Women’s team have achieved their fifth Grand Final in a row,” Kelmscott President Rob Turner had to say. “Success since establishment in 2021, the Women’s team have won the 2021, 2023, and 2024 premierships.”

“I always loved playing, but I really love coaching more,” Kelmscott Coach Bill Williamm Hansen said. “I am very proud of the achievement by the girls”.

Ocean Ridge had a tough 2024 season to put behind them, but the side came into 2025 ready to prove what they’re capable of.

“The group has a really good bond on and off the field… they have great resilience and toughness, while still remaining humble,” Coach Steve Hazzel said ahead of this weekend. “This group is capable of creating something special for the Ridge women's program and we appreciate the full support of the club leading into the Grand Final with a solid commitment from our President, the board, sponsors and supporter base.”

From Ocean Ridge, Kayleigh Whitehead, Elissa Price and Taylor Evans have been named as three players to watch.

“Whitehead is a great inside mid with a great work rate, usually giving us first use of the ball,” Hazell said. Price’s "explosive speed” as a high half-forward makes her dominant in the air, whilst Evans is been described as the heart and soul of the team who is “tough as nails” in a contest.

Kelmscott’s full back Akeria Collard, ruck Mahalia Rukuata, and prior leading goal-kicker Summer Yarran have been named as three players to watch from the Bulldogs bench.

Women’s C2: Ballajura vs Swan Valley

1:00PM, HIF Health Insurance Oval, $15 Entry

Ballajura heads into this season’s grand final undefeated, taking to the field against Swan Valley who finished second on the ladder. The teams faced off three times this season with Ballajura winning each time.

“I’ve coached with my assistant coach this side for the last three years and the girls have come along in leaps and bounds,” Ballajura Coach Michele Priolo said. The team, having moved into the C2 Division after winning the C3 Division Premiership in 2024, is hopeful to keep their two-year undefeated streak going.

With only a goal between the teams in the last game played during finals, the margin this weekend is expected to be tight as first and second battle it out for the premiership.

From the Ballajura side, forwards Larah Harris and Lola Hill have been named as players to watch alongside midfielders Nyra Anderson and Annelise Hill.

From Swan Valley, Lauren ‘Skinny’ Osborne, Hannah Stephens and Chanel ‘Jetts’ Jetta have been named as ones to keep an eye on this Saturday.

Osborne, a former WAFLW premiership player has “enjoyed a splendid season in the back half where she controls the play,” Swan Valley Coach Brant Johnson explained. “Through the middle of the ground, Jetts loves to rove the ball off some magic from the rucks or up forward, she is all class around the goals” whilst two time Best and Fairest winner, Stephens, has been instrumental in the Swan Valley half forward.

Women’s C3: Bayswater vs Kingsway

11:00AM, HIF Health Insurance Oval, $15 Entry

Bayswater and Kingsway take to the field as the C3 Women’s grand final contenders in their final showdown for the year. Bayswater sits undefeated atop the ladder this season, having beat Kingsway in the second round of finals to qualify for this Saturday’s match.

“We’re so proud of the team’s culture, commitment to our values on and off the field, and their passion for success,” said Bayswater President Michael Higgs. “Our Women’s team has been building and growing for 8 years since inception, and we’re so thrilled that they finally get to taste success and finals football, along with a grand final appearance! It’s a testament to their perseverance and love for the Club and the game.”

Kingsway, having lost only once this season and finishing second on the ladder, defeated Hills Rangers in the preliminary final by 46 points, showing the team is ready for the ultimate challenge this weekend presents. Players Abbey Partridge, Melisha Hardy and Tiarne Barnett are named as three to watch from the Kingsway side.

Partridge is “brave in the air and a fierce tackler; she has a piercing kick that starts a lot of forward movement for her team,” Kingsway President Rob Miller has to say. Barnett, a key defender whose rebound efforts helps Kingsway’s attacking momentum, and Hardy who has terrorised defenders all year and is a key scorer, are also two to keep an eye on.

From Bayswater, Lilliya Lwoy, Hayley Crute, and Sophia Bishop are three women to watch. “Lil has been electric off half-back this season,” Higgs explained. “There’s no stopping Crutey through the middle. She wins the ball hard.”

“Sophia has been a dominant force up forward. Her strong hands and sharp goal sense make her a serious threat whenever the ball comes her way”

Women’s C4: Manning vs Ellenbrook

11:00AM, Burrendah Reserve, $15 Entry

Manning and Ellenbrook head out on Saturday as the top two teams in this season’s C4 Women’s Competition in a much-anticipated rematch. Ellenbrook beat Manning early in the season, but Manning knocked over Ellenbrook as the season progressed and once again in finals to be the first to qualify for Saturday.

“We strived to bring together a group of girls that loved having fun and playing footy together, building an awesome team, culture and community,” said Manning President Callum Rogers.  “Winning games of footy on top of that was a bonus, and to not only achieve this but also make it into a Grand Final is something we are so proud of. It is a testament to how much the girls have grown as both individual players, and as a cohesive team in just 18 weeks.”

Ellenbrook, who finished atop the ladder, beat Trinity Aquinas by 54 points in last weekend’s preliminary and the team is once again ready to take on Manning in what is expected to be one of the biggest rematches of the day.

Paige Walley, a standout ruck and major midfield contributor, Liv Ferrante whose versatility and strong impact around contests and in front of goals has been formidable, and Amber Goodwin-Wissink, a natural leader on the field whose knowledge of the game and physical prowess makes her a force, are three players to watch from Manning.

From Ellenbrook, speedy midfielder Tamia Mippy who has an amazing overhead mark, midfielder Shaan Mitchell who isn’t afraid to drive through tackles, and Courtney West whose huge kick and versatility has helped establish her as the division’s leading goal scorer, are named as three to watch as well.
