Curtin Uni secured a hard-frought 7-point victory over Trinity Aquinas to win a tense game that swung back and forth before being decided in the final term.

The game opened with a few behind’s from both sides before Tom Gheddes from Curtin Uni Wesley scored the first goal of the match pushing Curtin ahead. Another late behind gave Curtin a nice lead after the first quarter.

Curtin continued their dominance into the second quarter with Campbell Taylor and Jesse Adams adding a behind and a goal to stretch the margin further. Trinity however, began to find momentum with William Naismith nailing their first goal, followed by another major that cut the margin to 16 – 4 at half time.

The match became a true arm-wrestle as trinity opened the third quarter with a behind to close the gap to a single point before the two sides went goal for goal, Tom Geddes and William Stagg for Curtin, and Joshua Braunstein and William Naismith responding from Trinity to go into the final quarter with a one point margin.

With the pressure on, Curtin lifted. Campbell Taylor with a major score to extend the lead before Than Payne delivered another vital goal. Trinity stayed alive through Tyson Giles, but time ran out as Curtin closed with a late behind to finish the game 6.6 (42) - 5.5 (35).

Mt Lawley produced a commanding performance to defeat Wanneroo by 35 points, controlling the game from the opening bounce and never allowing their opponents to settle.

Wanneroo got the first score of the game through a behind from Ashlen Braidwood but it was all Mt Lawley after that. Jett bishop kicked the opening goal before a strong finish from Ben Crook and Turi Rodoreda giving them a strong lead at quarter time.

Mt Lawley extended their advantage with a couple behinds early in the second quarter before Wanneroo briefly lifted with Dylan Young scoring a behind followed by Billy McEvoy kicking Wanneroo’s first goal to reduce the margin. Mt Lawley quickly responded as Ben Cook kicked another goal ensuring a comfortable lead going into half time.

The third term saw mt Lawley put the contest beyond doubt. Despite a couple of behinds from Ashton Tyler and Darcy Montgomery from Wanneroo, Mt Lawley’s forwards were relentless. Jake Lombardi nailed his first of the afternoon, before Ben Crook slotted his third.

Going into the final term Wanneroo pressed early with a string of behinds from McEvoy, Dylan Mineham, and others, but they couldn’t convert opportunities into goals. Mt Lawley capitalised once again, with Lombardi kicking his second and the team’s final goal of the day to seal the victory 7.7 (49) - 1.8 (14).

Kalamunda edged out Gosnells in a thrilling contest, holding their nerve in the final quarter to secure a 10-point victory. After a scrappy opening, both sides traded momentum before Kalamunda’s composure in front of goal proved decisive.

The opening term was scrappy, with both sides wasting opportunities. Sacha Jovancic and Kayel Ascoli registered early behinds before Ascoli broke through with the first goal of the match. Jevan Buckland added a pair of behinds, giving Kalamunda a slender lead at quarter time.

Kalamunda stretched the margin when Thomas Mortensen goaled early, but Gosnells responded strongly. Matthew Edgelow and Rilee Hodges kicked consecutive majors to cut the deficit to just 5 points. A flurry of behinds from both teams kept it tight, before Edgelow added another goal to put Gosnells in front for the first time at the main break.

Momentum stayed with Gosnells when Ronald Abraham extended their lead to 27 – 19. But Kalamunda weren’t done. Alessio Masella and Michael De Gasperis both slotted crucial goals to swing the scoreboard back their way. A late behind stretched their buffer, and by three-quarter time Kalamunda once again captured the lead.

The final term had everything. Gosnells hit back immediately through Taiawhio Morrison, snatching the lead before Kalamunda steadied as Jevan Buckland converted under pressure and Mortensen sealed the result with his second goal of the game. Kalamunda ran out winners, 6.8 (44)  –  5.4 (34), in a seesawing battle.

Piara Waters held off a spirited Kingsley fightback to claim a hard-fought 13-point victory. After taking control in the middle quarters, Piara had to withstand a final-term surge from Kingsley before sealing the win with two late goals.

Kingsley started strongly, with Sam Angell and Ethan Marafioti kicking early goals to give their side a nice lead. Piara finally got on the board with a behind from Riley Blacker before Lucas Mitcheson-Brown slotted their first goal late in the quarter, trimming the margin to at the break.

Momentum swung to Piara Waters as Louie Miskiewicz and Ben McLauchlan kicked back-to-back goals to push them in front. Kingsley managed only two behinds from Marafioti, while Piara extended their lead further with a goal to Harrison London. By halftime, Piara had turned a 5-point deficit into an advantage.

Piara tightened their grip on the contest, controlling territory but struggling for accuracy. A string of behinds from Taj Watson and Miskiewicz stretched the margin slightly before McLauchlan kicked truly for his second.

Kingsley came roaring back. Ashtyn Brooker-Seinor kicked the first of the quarter, before Angell and Isaac Price added majors to suddenly cut the margin to just one point. But Piara Waters steadied under pressure, with Jack Hawtinand Marco Madaffari sealing the game with clutch goals. Final score: 5.5 (35) – 7.6 (48).

Swan Athletic survived a late Yanchep surge to escape with a nail-biting 2-point win. In a game dominated by momentum swings and missed opportunities, both sides had their chances, but Swan held on in the dying minutes to edge out their opponents.

Yanchep opened the scoring through Brock Bastick, but Swan Athletic responded quickly with goals to Kaden Curtis and Jaydin Armstrong. A series of behinds followed as both sides squandered opportunities. Jamie Deane pulled Yanchep back within two points, but Swan finished the quarter with a small lead.

Swan extended their advantage when Levi Felder slotted their third goal. Yanchep answered through Riley Anderson, trimming the margin once again. Both sides were wasteful, trading behinds as defences held strong.

The contest opened up after the main break. Yanchep leveled the scores through Kade Mettimano, but Swan steadied with a string of behinds before Lachlan Wight kicked truly. Yanchep refused to go away, with Griffen Glover and Cooper Trimmer hitting the scoreboard to briefly snatch the lead. In a dramatic final minute, Swan struck back instantly with a late goal, reclaiming the advantage at the last change.

The final term was a tense arm-wrestle. Swan peppered the goals early but could only add three behinds, extending the margin to six points. Yanchep surged late, with four consecutive behinds narrowing the gap to just two points. Despite their relentless pressure, time ran out, and Swan Athletic held on for a 6.7 (43) – 5.15 (45) victory.
