In A Grade, North Beach, Kingsway and Ocean Ridge all opened their campaigns in emphatic fashion. Fremantle C.B.C. also secured a hard-earned away win over newly promoted Baldivis, with Dillon O’Reilly returning to his 2025 goalkicking form with five goals.

University produced a complete performance in its 30-point win over 2025 grand finalist Curtin Uni Wesley, with Cyprus Upson and Chris White leading the way, while Cuba Cellier impressed on debut. North Beach’s forward line was firing on all cylinders against Trinity Aquinas, as Alexander Marklew kicked five alongside Tom Lang’s four. Young gun Cass Dunlop also made an immediate impact with two goals in the 84-point win. Ocean Ridge provided the round’s biggest statement, dismantling Scarborough by 60 points in a performance that suggests a potential change for the side that struggled against the bigger sides last season.

Looking ahead, the coming weekend shapes as an early test for the four of Round 1’s five winners, with University hosting North Beach and Kingsway set to clash with Ocean Ridge at Kingsway Reserve.

Budget Car and Truck Rental A Grade Women didn’t disappoint, delivering big scorelines and strong early statements. Newly promoted Hamersley Carine fell agonisingly short in a one-point loss to Baldivis, with Yazmin Arias continuing her prolific form from B Grade with four goals.

Trinity Aquinas, the 2025 B Grade premiers, made a major statement with a 94-point win over North Beach, extending an unbeaten run that dates back to August 2024. That streak faces a serious challenge in Round 2 when Trinity meets Baldivis. Newly promoted Quinn’s also announced itself with an upset win over established A Grade side Melville by eight points, while Curtin Uni Wesley edged reigning premiers University in a tight Uni Derby.

In B Grade, West Coast sits atop the ladder after a dominant 67-point win over promoted Melville, with Mark Winton and Ethan Hill combining for eight goals. Relegated sides Whitford and North Fremantle also recorded strong wins, underlining their intent to return to A Grade at the first opportunity. Cockburn Lakes showed promise in its 21-point win over Brentwood, with Jacob Plunkett and Jayden Little each kicking four, while Swan Athletic secured a hard-fought two-goal win against Bullcreek Leeming. Round 2 looms as an early opportunity to set the benchmark as first-place West Coast plays second-place Whitford.

Swan Athletic and Scarborough have burst out of the blocks in B Grade Women’s. The Swans powered past Collegians by 79 points, with Sienna Parker leading the way with four goals. Scarborough produced the biggest result of the round, defeating Piara Waters by 100 points, with Jane Stockley also finishing with four goals. Newly promoted Kelmscott and Kwinana recorded impressive wins, while Bullcreek Leeming edged Ocean Ridge in a tight five-point contest. Attention now turns to Round 2, headlined by a 2025 B Grade grand final rematch between Ocean Ridge and Kelmscott.

EGT Colts
In the EGT Phil Scott Colts, Fremantle C.B.C. showed no signs of slowing down, recording a 100-point win over Baldivis. Tomas Ryan led the way with four goals, supported by Cameron Rusling and Macklin Kelly with three goals each. CBC now faces a strong test against the 2025 Drew Bannfield Premiers Mount Lawley, which returned to the top division with a 67-point win over Kingsway. Elsewhere, University beat Curtin Uni Wesley in a two-point thriller. Curtin will look to bounce back against a tough Scarborough, coming off a loss to Ocean Ridge, in what will be the game to watch for round 2.

Across the Colts’ competitions, several blowout results stood out. Mosman Park’s 121-point win over Forrestdale signalled its premiership credentials, while Wanneroo also impressed early in Ian Dargie.

Warnbro’s 102-point victory over Wanneroo in the Brett Jones division was a surprise result in a competition with significant turnover that will be unpredictable and highly competitive all season.
In Laurie Keene, Swan View’s 69-point win over Bassendean was highlighted by an outstanding eight-goal haul from James Ford, the equal highest individual return of across all competitions for round 1.

C Grade Men’s and Women’s
The 8-goal game feat was matched by Coolbellup’s Ivan Starr-Garlett as his side smashed Swan View by 75 points in C4. Only to be outdone by High Wycombe’s 109-point win over Mount Lawley, as Noah Criddle-White and Jonathan Anderson combined for 10 goals, sending them to the top of C4.

Budget Car and Truck Rental C2 Men’s shapes as one of the most competitive divisions early, with few blowouts aside from Belmont’s 55-point win over Bassendean. Newly promoted Cottesloe impressed despite a defeat to Gosnells, with Joshua Pullman kicking five. Ben Gavranich also finished with five in Kingsley’s win over Canning Vale.

C1 largely mirrored last season’s dominant sides, although Wanneroo’s convincing win over fellow relegated B Grade side Wembley stood out. Round 2’s key fixture in C1 sees Kwinana take on Hamersley Carine, with both sides pushing for promotion in 2025. Kwinana’s Joshua Elphick will again be one to watch after a six-goal performance in the side’s win against Quinns in Round 1.

In C1 Women’s, Kingsway and Bayswater made immediate impacts after rising two divisions from C3. Kingsway defeated the reigning C2 premiers by 51 points away from home, with Josie Byfield kicking four, while Sophia Bishop also finished with four in Bayswater’s win over Coolbellup.

Elsewhere, Whitford stamped itself as a contender in C2 Women’s with a 78-point win over Mt Lawley, while 2025 C2 premiers Swan Valley were handed a tough introduction to C1 in a heavy loss to Kingsway. Newly promoted Hills Rangers showed promise despite defeat to Gosnells, with Kahli Gregorovich’s four-goal performance a clear highlight. As expected, C3 women’s is a free-for-all after a massive change of teams. The league looks prime for a runaway favourite, but if Round 1 is anything to go by, the sides will be neck and neck all year.
