Wanneroo have started the season by exceeding already high expectations, going unbeaten so far. Wanneroo's impressive defensive record is the key to their success — 426 points against compared to the next best defensive record, Wembley at 565. Wembley, the other side coming down from B Grade, have been equally impressive, with two losses against Wanneroo that could’ve very easily gone their way. Wembley’s Josh Richards, a constant threat in the forward line, is on track to beat his best scoring season of 60 goals, currently sitting top of the goal-kicking table with 39.

Thornlie, a team outperforming expectations after last season's sixth-place finish, is currently in third with a very likely chance of making the finals. Cooper Shord, having a breakout first full season of senior football, sits second on the goalkicking table with 38, his Thornlie teammate Bailey Smith not far behind on 20 goals, making for one of the deadliest partnerships in the league.

Cockburn Cobras, the newly promoted powerhouse, sits sixth with a real chance at finals, with a huge part of that down to the quality and A-grade level experience of Julian Hutlen, who has bagged himself 31 goals in 7 games. Wins against the big sides are their Achilles heel so far, only beating Kwinana, but the benefit of their games against the big sides in the second half of the season is a huge advantage. Kwinana, who, despite their poor recent form, are always strong in the back half of the season, along with a young Hamersley Carine side, hitting their stride, setting up a battle for September football that will go down to the wire. Between third-place Thornlie and sixth-place Cockburn Cobras, two wins separate the 4 sides in a hotly contest mid table pack.

None of the four sides can afford to lose momentum, especially Hamersley Carine, who play Thornlie, Wembley, Wanneroo, and Cockburn Cobras in their last 5 games of the season, but their percentage advantage puts them in a prime position to claim a final spot finish that will most likely come down to the finest margins. At the same time, Kwinana have a favourable run in the back end of the season, while Cockburn Cobras will face both Kwinana and Hamersley in their last 3 games, with the underdog story fully in reach if they can hold their nerve.

Piara Waters and Kingsley reach the halfway mark, both in flag-worthy form, with Piara Waters’ impressive defensive record being the big thing separating them at the top from the second-place Kingsley. Kinglsey, the big story bouncing back after finishing 7th last season, has already surpassed its 7 wins from last season with 9 wins and one loss to Piara Waters. The decisive Round 13 rematch looms with paramount importance for both sides.

Kinglsey’s attack has been monumental with Andre Amonini and Ben Gavranich, the formidable duo in front of goals for Kingsley, combining 54 goals for the season. Patrick Shaw, Piara Waters' leading talisman, has slotted an impressive 18 goals in his first full season out of the Colts. Third place, Belmont District, only a win behind the top two, who inflicted their only two losses of the season away from home, will be eyeing up the return fixture against the big two as a big opportunity.

Last season's C3 premiers, Canning South Perth, have maintained their momentum and look well on track for a final spot in fifth, chasing down rivals Canning Vale in fourth.

Canning Vale’s Cody Nelson is the leading goalkicker with 32 goals, teammate Warwick Saupold not far behind on 24 goals. Canning South Perth’s only real challenge currently to a finals spot finish is coming from their C3 promoted partners, Swan Valley, who are two wins behind. Swan Valley have shown real fight against the big teams, and their more appealing run of games on the back end of the season could have Canning South Perth worried come August.

Warnbro is second with a game in hand at the mid-way point of the season, level on points with East Fremantle and Willetton at the top of the ladder. The league's leading goalkicker, Daniel Groom, whose 25 goals have been pivotal in Warnbro’s chase for their first flag since 2018. Teammates James Orlandi’s 16 goals, Hayden Davis’s 18 goals and young gun Harrison Crowe's 12 goals, who’s doing his club proud on the Colts level for Peel Thunder, together contribute 61 of the side’s 102 goals this season. Even more impressive considering that Warnbro have hit double digits in their goal tally in all but one game this season.

Warnbro have dropped one game all season, to Willetton, who, after losing their two opening games by the smallest of margins, have gone on to smash every team they’ve faced. After last season's eighth-place finish, Willetton looks like a serious contender. The incoming WAFL experience brought in through Ryan Lester Smith and Matt Jukes has been central to Willetton’s 8-game winning streak.

Last season's C4 premiers, Kenwick, have been a side of narrow misses, losing four games by fewer than nine points, but turning around their bad luck in a big win against fourth-place Carlisle in the most recent round. Kenwick's biggest threat to their hopes of climbing into the top four remains consistency; despite a hard-fought win over fourth-placed Carlisle, they still fall behind them by two wins. Coolbinia, the dark horse of the league have more than warranted their position in sixth with some big wins over tough opposition. The race for the finals finish opens up as an unpredictable affair between Coolbinia and Kenwick, with a softer run of games on the backend of the season for Coolbinia and a slip up on the cards for Carlisle, who face Warnbro and Willetton in their last 3 games.

Four of the promoted sides from C5 incredibly occupy the top four spots, with Lynwood Ferndale holding top position, losing just one game all season against Coolbellup. While not as impressive going forward compared to second-place Coolbellup and third-place High Wycombe, Lynwood Ferndale has consistently shown composure when it matters, winning five games this season by under 14 points. Coolbellup’s impressive home record stands out in their fight for a double promotion, with all three of their losses occurring on the road, winning at home by 75 points or more three times. Coolbellup’s key forward, Curtis Hansen, has been instrumental to their success, with 24 goals for the season.

High Wycombe also possesses a keen eye for goal, with Noah Criddle-White scoring a ridiculous 41 goals so far, including a 10-goal haul against Noranda. Swan View’s return to the PFL after 9 years away has proven successful, keeping a good pace with some top sides. Forwards Josh Hollingum and Jeff Ladd have combined for 55 goals so far.

Curtin Uni Wesley, one of the five sides to remain from the reshuffling of last season’s teams, has played five games decided by less than a goal, guaranteeing edge-of-your-seat football on a regular basis. Manning, the only other side from last season to really compete with the top end of the table, has their forward, Jack Steele, on an impressive streak of a goal in all seven matches he’s played, totalling 26 goals.

Rossmoyne are simply running away with it this season, top of the ladder undefeated, scoring an average of 106 points and conceding an average of 37 points. Matt Koutsoukis, leading Rossmoyne’s flawless start to the season, has kicked an insane 55 goals in 10 games.

Second-placed Safety Bay have run into a difficult stretch of games with back-to-back losses to Rossmoyne and Baldivis to spoil their perfect record at home, allowing Whitford to close within one win in third place. Whitford, like Safety Bay, has proven strong at home with one loss at Macdonald Reserve so far. Whitford’s ability to put up big scores far outweighs the other teams outside of Rossmoyne. Making use of the club’s size, utilising players like Chris Pugh, Ben Kuhl and Harri Fox, the trio combining for 53 goals despite limited appearances together.

Swan Athletic and Baldivis have traded places between fourth and fifth throughout the season. Swan Athletic appear to have the upper hand with the third-best defensive record in the league, with an advantageous run home from here on out, and the current form of forward Christopher Wollaston, who has scored in all of his 9 games for 22 goals, could be enough to see them retain fourth place and a possible promotion.
