Nairn, Regan and Streeton celebrate significant umpiring milestones

WAAFL State U23's Program- Invited Players

The following players are invited to attend this years State Under 23’s Program. These players have been identified by either their coach, club official, state coaching scout or other WAAFL official. A squad of 22 players will be chosen from this program to represent the WAAFL in a clash with the VAFA Under 23s in Melbourne on 7th July 2018. Training will start at 630pm every Wednesday night from 9th May through to the 4th July at City Beach Oval.

Integrated State Player Nominations

The Integrated competition is sending a state team to the AFL National Inclusion Carnival in Tasmania from the 18th to 23rd June 2018. An invitation is extended to all WAAFL Clubs with Integrated Football Teams or Clubs yet to establish an Integrated Team but have players who may meet criteria to nominate them to attend the State Trials.

Ballajura’s Dwayne Unwin reaches 300 game milestone

Ballajura C1 Reserves player Dwayne Unwin will reach 300 games this weekend when he comes up against Carlisle at Kingfisher Reserve. Dwayne or as he is known at the club ‘undies’, started playing for the Ballajura colts in the year 2000 and has played every year since. He has won two premierships in his time at Ballajura, the most recent in 2015 when the clubs C3 side defeated Swan View comfortably by 72 points. The

WAAFL launches Women’s Competition in 2018

The Western Australian Amateur Football League will be launching a Senior Women’s Competition in 2018 for the first time in the leagues 96-year history. The formation of the WAAFL Women’s competition identifies the need for a senior community competition as well as creating a pathway towards the WAWFL competition. A restructure of the WAAFL By-Laws will reflect the change to the competition which used to read “Only males are eligible to play in the Senior and Colts competition”

North Fremantle’s Adam Vost celebrates game 300

On Saturday 14 April North Fremantle D1 player Adam Vost stepped onto the football field for the 300th time. Adam ‘Scooby’ Vost has played for the North Fremantle Football Club since 2003. He has represented the club in every grade from A to E, featuring in ten grand finals and winning eight premierships. Adam has also represented the WAAFL in both the colts and U23 State Programs. The North Fremantle D1 side managed to secure the win on Saturday for Adam with the 300-gamer kicking four goals.

WAAFL State Colts Program- Round 2 Invites

Matkovich appointed as State Integrated Coach

The WAAFL State Integrated Team will be led by head coach James Matkovich in 2018. Matkovich is a level two accredited coach and was an assistant coach with the WAAFL State Integrated Team in 2015. He has also been involved with coaching at South Fremantle Football Club with the colts and under 15’s development squads.

Around the Grounds- Round 1

A Grade Round one kicked off with the grand final rematch between North Beach and Trinity Aquinas. After going down by 34 points in last year’s season decider North Beach came out firing in the first half kicking five goals to nil in the first quarter. They added another six goals in the second quarter to lead by 55 points at the major break.
